Chapter 5
The Force Is With You
Depression is an emotion very close to the end of the maze where fear lives. Depression is even closer to fear than anger and guilt. When you are in a depression, you may feel paralyzed. You don’t move. With anger and guilt, you are still active. When you are depressed you just do nothing, which is pretty close to dead. Other people may often be okay with your being depressed, at least for a while. Depressed people are quiet, do not complain, and are not in the way.

A Silicon Valley School That Doesn’t Compute
LOS ALTOS, Calif. — The chief technology officer of eBay sends his children to a nine-classroom school here. So do employees of Silicon Valley giants like Google, Apple, Yahoo and Hewlett-Packard. But the school’s chief teaching tools are anything but high-tech:pens and paper, knitting needles and, occasionally, mud. Not a computer to be found. No screens at all. They are not allowed in the classroom, and the school even frowns on their use at home.
