Astrology of the Soul

Weight Off Wholistically

In order for us to be happy, we have to work long and hard to integrate mind, body and soul. People are diverse and complicated with many conscious and unconscious aspects. The parts that are unconscious tend to have power and control over our daily lives until we make them conscious. The inner child is a good example of the unconscious at work, as he or she often wrecks havoc on our health (and other areas of our lives) through poor choices. When we as adults become good parents to the inner child, we are able to live healthier, more conscious lives. The integration of child and adult resolves the mind – body paradigm. There is another piece to the integration, which is our connection to our divine power source, or soul. Listening to and following our inner guidance is the key to having the will and the determination to change our lives.

The Saturn in Virgo Journey

The Saturn in Virgo transit began on September 2, 2007 and will be in still be in effect through 2009. We have time to continue to create a healthy lifestyle, and to solidify what we have already planned and begun. This is also the time to create a positive relationship with our divine inner mother and our divine child.

We do not gain excessive weight and eat badly as adults. We know better. We eat badly when we eat unconsciously as children eat: “I want what I want, when I want it.” The Saturn in Virgo transit, if we use the opportunity to connect with our Divine Feminine, will enable us to discriminate the child’s voice from that of the rational adult, and it will also help us set boundaries that will help our inner children be healthy and happy.

Emotions are contained within the body and need to be accessed on a regular basis. The five basic emotions – mad, glad, sad, scared and ashamed – need to be recognized and appropriately expressed. We overeat when our feelings remain subconscious, like the feelings of children, especially children who are taught to repress their feelings. We grow up with the bad habit of denying how we feel, and in order to be healthy we need to unlearn that.

I tell my students, “Feel it before you eat it.” We eat to push down our feelings, and therefore we eat automatically and unconsciously. In essence, we are allowing our inner children to control our eating. If we take the time to feel and understand what we are feeling, we may still eat the candy, but we will know why we did it, and it is less likely to become an addictive pattern. Nurturing our inner children with love and compassion allows them not to want to be filled up with bad food, but to enjoy the occasional treat.

Virgo: Our Divine Mother

In ancient times the word Virgo, or virgin, implied an independent, fertile, self sufficient woman, which is quite different than the Christian definition of purity and celibacy. Virgo represents the inner Divine Feminine and the Divine Mother who springs forth from the earth. The time of Virgo is early fall when the harvest is reaped. She is the goddess of wheat and is usually seen holding a sheaf of wheat in her arms. In the form of Isis, Virgo lived amongst the common man as the goddess of agriculture and medicine. She was the epitome of sacred service, which is the natural calling for Virgo.

My Virgo Prayer

Every day I spend a few minutes saying my prayer to Virgo. I would like to share it with you. “Welcome to you, blessed Virgo, Divine Mother of the Divine Son, and Goddess of the Harvest to your sacred earth, as Saturn continues its journey through your constellation. It is through you that the intentional uniting of spirit and matter occurs. Through this marriage we are witnessing divinity planting its seed in Virgo. The results are sacred form and ultimately the manifestation of the kingdom of heaven on earth. It is through you, Virgo, that we become vessels of sacred service. It is through your connection to the sacred earth that we more clearly understand the mind, body and spirit aspects of the holistic Age of Aquarius.”

My Story

I have no planets in Virgo in my astrological chart. I have never been a healthy eater. I existed on cheeseburgers, French fries and Pepsi. I topped out at 267 pounds on a 5 foot five inch frame. I was obese and inactive with back problems and a cholesterol count over 330. I had trouble fitting into a size 24. It took everything I had to walk up stairs. I was 60 years old and looked older; in essence, I was dying and I knew it. Now, six years later, I weigh 140 pounds, walk up to 10 miles a day, line dance every week and can fit comfortably into a size 6 jean. I have dieted before in my life and lost over 200 pounds through my life, and I always gained it back with interest! Weight Off Wholistically – WOW- is the program that I developed six years ago that saved me on every level. I learned to bring Virgo into my life and was thrilled when Saturn, my personal karmic teacher, moved into this sign. Virgo is an earth sign, so this particular placement of Saturn is very much at home. Earth signs want to master the physical world. Earth rules the function of the five senses, which are sacred to the physical body. I wanted to honor my physical body as my sacred temple, so I got serious about creating a weight loss program that would actually work, and work long term.
